History of Shimadzu Mass Spectrometry Technologies

1970

LKB9000

Introduction of LKB9000, world's first GC/MS (magnetic sector type), to Japan, with collaboration with LKB, Sweden. Started production in Japan under license from LKB, and released to Japanese and international markets as GCMS-9000.

1979

GCMS-6020

GCMS-6020, Computerized magnetic sector type GC/MS.

1982

GCMS-QP1000

GCMS-QP1000, Japan's first quadrupole type mass spectrometer for organic compound analyses, which increased GC/MS users in Japan. Shortly later, released GCMS-QP300 for trace gas analyses and GCMS-QP2000 for general use.

1987

GCMS-9100MK

GCMS-9100MK, reversed type double focus GC/MS with MS/MS measurement capability.

1988

LAMS-50K

1988 LAMS-50K, the world's first MALDI-TOF MS instrument was released employing the first soft lazer desorption method (lately known as MALDI - Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization) Relevant papers were read at Japan-China Joint Symposium on Mass Spectrometry (Sept. 1987) and published in Rapid Communications in Mass Spetrometry, USA (1988).

LCMS-QP1000, a Thermospray LC/MS, which pioneered practical use LC/MS with collaboration with Vestec Corporation, USA.

LCMS-QP1000

1992

Kompact MALDI

Kompact MALDI Series, enabling analyses of wide range of applications including peptides, proteins, sugars, multiplex fats, nucleotides, pharmaceutical products and metabolites.

1993

GCMS-QP5000

GCMS-QP5000, low cost and affordable GC/MS. The QP5000 series, including enhanced QP5050 and QP5050A, have been installed more than 4000 units worldwide.

1997

LCMS-QP8000

LCMS-QP8000 with ESI (Electrospray Ionization) and APCI (Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionization) interfaces.

2000

LCMS-2010

LCMS-2010, with higher sensitivity with re-designed optics and interfaces, positive/negative simultaneous measurement capability and full control of photodiode array (PDA) detector. Upgraded LCMS-2010A (Advanced) is released in 2002.

AXIMA-CFR, a MALDI-TOF MS ideal for proteomics with 384-well plate high sample capability using 384-well plate and automated analysis functions. Provides performance required for protein identification , such as higher resolution than 10,000, high sensitivity for femto mol detection, and CFR (Curved Field Reflectron) for rapid and clean MS/MS spectra acquisition for protein identification.
