Q.When measuring samples or containers charged with static electricity, numerical values deviate or vary. Please tell me if there is any way of correcting this.

A : When a sample charged with static electricity is measured (in particular, at mg order or below), an attracting or repelling force is sometimes generated between the charged sample or container and the glass windbreak or other parts of the balance, resulting in unstable indication. Since static electricity is more likely to occur when atmospheric humidity is low, it can sometimes be prevented by placing a beaker full of water inside the weighing chamber of the balance, if this is possible. Shimadzu sells a static electricity remover (product name: STABLO-EX exclusively for electronic balances. We recommend trying out the STABLO-EX since it irradiates the sample or container with well-balanced positive and negative ions to speedily remove static electricity.
