Genetic Inspection of Food | Rapid Meat Species Identification

Identification of Meat Type by DNA/RNA Analysis System (Meat Species Identification)

Recent concerns over food safety have raised consumer awareness and led to demands for the accurate, easy, and rapid discrimination between the types of meat contained in food products.
Microchip Electrophoresis System for DNA/RNA Analysis can rapidly identify the meat species. Chicken, beef, mutton, pork and horse meat were analyzed.

Results
The following fragments were clearly separated to distinguish between the respective meat species: 218 bp derived from chicken, 268 bp derived from beef, 331 bp derived from mutton, 359 bp derived from pork, and 430 bp derived from horse.
