ITEM 2010 Shimadzu Booth Report

2010 Shimadzu Booth Report

At this year’s ITEM2010 we exhibited latest medical imaging diagnostic systems providing comfortable and gentle examination conditions to patients. Safire FPD, which brings higher image quality with less dose in most of diagnoses and examinations, also has the big advantage in its pioneering clinical application and extremely higher throughput. Not only safire systems but all the exhibited items and applications attracted so many visitors attention.

Among 20,000 visitors in total to the exhibition (including 12,000 doctors, radiologists and health workers), Shimadzu booth received the largest number of guest in the past, as many as over 3,000 doctors/radiologists/health workers.

SONIALVISION safire 17

SONIALVISION safire 17

A lot of visitors recognized the ultra high quality images brought by 17x17inch direct-conversion FPD and the wide range of high efficiency from G.I. exam to DSA. We showed clinical data as well as the system to promote advanced application including tomosynthesis and slot radiography. Among them tomosynthesis has the biggest possibility of being applied to orthopedics, thoracic exams, etc. and it made a success in arousing the visitors interests. We also had useful speeches on the application at JRC (Japan Radiology Congress) as well as researches on less dose at university-industry collaboration seminar, which is the clear evidence that tomosynthesis will have more value.

BRANSIST safire

BRANSIT safire

We proved that BRANSIST safire with 9inch FPD has enough FOV not only for cardiac and cerebral purpose but also for abdominal examination by demonstrating the real machine and showing the clinical images. SUREengine Pro, a new post-processing device, offers highest visibility of cardiovascular images in the world by much increasing the sensitivity characteristic the FPD has. In addition, visitors were interested in CT-Like imaging that covers entire liver thanks to its 17x17inch large FPD, and also in Road-mapping function that displays 3D images on the real images.

RADspeed safire

RADspeed safire

Safire FPD has even higher detection efficiency than indirect one and thus achieves less x-ray dose and high definition images at the same time, on top of the system’s fine manipulability and high throughput, which were already certified by the fact that the system was awarded the best rating by “KLAS Buyer’s Guide 2009”. RADspeed got high reputations thanks to those excellent features.

Safire Presentation & Gallery

Safire Presentation & Gallery

There occurred so many discussions among presenters/demonstrators and visitors with regard to the infinite possibility given to safire’s application such as tomosynthesis, slot radiography, CT-like imaging, more and more. The subjects presented by us include “Shimadzu’s Strategy on Next-generation Technology, Molecular Imaging”, “Benefits by the Use of MobileDaRt Evolution” and “The Advantage Equipped with FLEXAVISION for Video Fluoroscopy.”

MobileDaRt Evolution

MobileDaRt Evolution

Now we have versatile line-ups of FPD, from large 14x17inch portable type to 9x11inch compact one which is effective for neonatal diagnosis. Both digital and analog mobile units dominate the biggest market share in several countries as Japan. Every visitor was satisfied with its superb operability and seemed to understand the reason why our mobile units have achieved remarkable success all over the world.

FLEXAVISION

FLEXAVISION

Multi-size cassette mounting spot film device is one of the standout features with FLEXAVISION. You can make exposure just after setting the field of interest in fluoroscopy. Elevating table down to 69cm also makes this system’s popularity grow much. This year we focused on video fluoroscopy with showing the special VF chair by appealing its long FFD1.5mt.

OPESCOPE PLENO

OPESCOPE PLENO

This Surgical C-arm’s smooth traveling performance and superior digital operability contributed to pump up our exhibition booth. PLENO was ranked at No.1 in the number of unit sold in this category in Japan in 2009.

JRC2010 University-Industry Collaboration Seminar

Tomosynthesis Potential Efficiency on Thoracic Cancer Detection
Tomosynthesis Potential Efficiency on Thoracic Cancer Detection

Dr. Keigo Endo, professor of Gumma University, led the seminar on SONIALVISION safire’s tomosynthesis with another two lecturers, Dr. Noriyuki Moriyama, director of Research Center for Cancer Prevention and Screening, National Cancer Center and Ms. Kaoru Shimizu, Hospital East of National Cancer Center. Dr. Moriyama made a speech on “Less Dose Tomosynthesis’s Clinical Utility on Lung Cancer Diagnosis” and Ms. Shimizu on “Technical Evaluation on Less Dose Tomosynthesis by SONIALVISION safire.” Both lectures pointed out the application’s high value in that it has high image resolution to distinguish lesion and the required dose volume is much decreased.

JRC2010 Luncheon Seminar

Spreading the Possibility of Angiography
JRC2010 Luncheon Seminar

Dr. Kimihiko Yoshikawa, professor of Nara Medical University, led the seminar on angiography systems with noble Dr. Masaaki Kato, Morinomiya Hospital, who everyday uses Shimadzu BRANSIST safire (17inch) and made a speech “What About the Examination Room with Angiography System –Stent Grafts Placement on Aortic Aneurysm-.” While showing some clinical images to the audience, he stated that he finds great values of our angiography system on smooth movement with C-arm and table, high speed C-arm movement, and superb image quality, all of which greatly help his stent grafts placement examination. After his impressive lecture, Yoshiaki Miura, R&D department of Shimadzu Corporation, made a presentation “Recent Trend of Angiography System with Direct Conversion FPD”. He explained our work on hybrid suites and cutting-edge applications like RSM-DSA, CT-like Imaging, 3D-roadmapping, and etc.
