Anti-Fade Paper for Long-Term Storage

The storage period prescribed in the manufacturer's design specifications is 3 years for normal heat-sensitive paper. Depending on the storage environment, the paper may fade earlier. To prevent this situation, anti-fade (AF) heat-sensitive paper is available. Conventional heat-sensitive paper employs a dye-type chromogenic reaction. However, as this reaction is reversible, the color reverts to the chemically stable original colorless state after contact with a plasticizer. Conversely, AF heat-sensitive paper exploits a mechanism that creates chemically stable pigment-type reaction products as the result of a thermal reaction. This mechanism permits longer storage of AF heat-sensitive paper, which is already used for receipts, etc.
The storage period prescribed in the manufacturer's design specifications for AF heat-sensitive paper is 20 years at 20 °C. It guarantees adequate storage performance, if the storage location is carefully considered.
