For simultaneous analysis of cyan and cyanogen chloride by chemical form

This system is a post-column visible light absorption detection system compliant with the Drinking Water Test Method. It enables high-sensitivity simultaneous analysis of cyan and cyanogen chloride by their chemical form.

Features

 

  1. High Selectivity
    A proprietary separation method, based on ion exclusion chromatography, combined with a post-column detection method that applies a 4-pyridinecarboxylic acid-pyrazolone method provides high selectivity. There is almost no interference from impurities.
  2. Rapid Analysis
    Using Shimadzu's proprietary high-performance column, the analysis time is only 7 minutes per sample. The analysis cycle time is short as well, at about 10 minutes.
  3. Easily Measures 1/10 of Criteria Value
    Sensitivity is high, with a detection limit (S/N = 3) of 0.0001 mg/L (CN- conversion value). This not only meets the criteria value (0.01 mg/L), but even easily measures 1/10 that concentration.
  4. Outstanding Ease-of-Maintenance and Stability
    Since the system uses an easily-cleaned column that can easily eliminate the effects of metal ions, it is very easy to maintain and provides very stable data.

Chromatograms of 1 µg/L (1 ppb) standard cyan and cyanogen chloride samples are shown above. They show that adequate reproducibility can be obtained even at 1/10 the concentration of the criteria value of 0.01 mg/L. In addition, good linearity is obtained in the concentration range from 0.5 µg/L to 100 µg/L.

A chromatogram of water spiked with potassium cyanide (added concentration: 1 µg/L) is shown above. Since the added cyan ions react with the residual chlorine in the tap water, most is detected as cyanogen chloride.
