Multi-Material

Multi material refers to an approach to providing weight reductions and increasing strength by combining multiple materials, instead of the conventional use of a single material, and optimizing their arrangement. An important issue with respect to multi-material is the joining and adhesion of heterologous materials.
Adhesion and joint strength are affected by various factors including the occurrence of localized stress produced by differences in the linear expansion coefficients of each material, the interface characteristics at each adherend, the detailed structure of the joint parts, and the characteristics of the adhesive.
