Analysis of Formaldehyde in an Indoor Environment

Wall and floor materials used in houses may contain residual formaldehyde, which may be dispersed throughout the house as a vapor. It is important to measure the concentration of this formaldehyde. Formaldehyde concentration was measured at several positions in a new house using a combination of solution collection (in water) and acetyl acetone colorimetry.

This instrument performs qualitative and quantitative analysis using the property that chemical substances absorb light at specific wavelengths. Formaldehyde is quantified using a light of wavelength of 412 nm.
