Residual Pesticides in Food
Many types of pesticides are currently used, and they are controlled in different ways according to different laws and regulations. For example, in the Drinking Water Test Method stipulated by the Japan Water Works Association, four components were added to the original 15 components. Pesticides in foods are controlled under the Japanese Food Hygiene Law. Pesticides can be analyzed by GC/MS, and we conducted GC/MS measurements on those that were registered after August 1995.
The electron ionization (EI) method is widely used for ionization in gas chromatograph mass spectrometers (GC/MS). However, the negative-ion chemical ionization (NCI) method allows ultra-high-sensitivity detection of residual organochloride and organophosphate pesticides in foods. The NCI method detects negative ions generated from the sample molecules using a reaction gas. It is as effective as ECD for detecting electron-affinitive compounds.
