Determination of Arsenic and Lead in Earth and Sand Using EDXRF [JIS K 0470]

In this Application News, we conducted analysis of soil based onJapanese Industrial Standard JIS K0470, which specifies the energydispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry method for thequantitation of all arsenic and lead in earth and sandusing the EDX-720.Since an energy dispersive X-ray fluorescencespectrometer is capable of multi-element simultaneousanalysis, we conducted simple qualitative analysis ofarsenic, selenium, cadmium, mercury and lead, which weselected from among the toxic substances specified astype II toxic substances in the Soil ContaminationCountermeasures Law. The results of both the qualitativeand quantitative analysis of the soil sample are alsointroduced as an application example.
