Food Metabolomics Using GC-FID

We assessed whether it was possible to perform metabolomics analysis, which is generally accomplished using GC-MS, with GC-FID as well. The stability of the data on an hourly and daily basis after derivatization was higher with GC-FID than with GC-MS. It was also equally as possible to discriminate between samples with very similar compositions using GC-FID as with GC-MS. These results have showed that GC-FID can be used in metabolomics analysis.
