Analysis of Bile Acid by GC-MS

Bile acid is a compound that tends to attract attention in research on intestinal flora, but separation and analysis are difficult due to the large number of species and the similarity of the properties of the compounds. For this reason, a combination of GC-MS and LC-MS is frequently used in total analyses of bile acid, but derivatization is necessary for GC-MS analysis because the molecules contain hydrophilic residues. Although derivatization methods for this purpose have generally not been established until now, we carried out derivatization treatment by the quick and simple method described in this article and successfully conducted a quantitative analysis.
