Analysis of Double Bond Position in Unsaturated Fatty Acid Methyl Esters by SMCI Method

The double bond position in fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) contributes to their functions, but more complex work including derivatization is necessary in order to determine their chelation sites. Therefore, a double bond localization technique by the chemical ionization method using acetonitrile was developed, and analysis is possible by using the new Shimadzu solvent mediated chemical ionization (SMCI) unit.
This article introduces examples of analysis of multiple unsaturated FAMEs.
