Fast GCMS determination of urinary organic acids for diagnosis of metabolism inborn errors

During normal metabolismactivities, the nutrientsobtained from food are metabolizedin the body, whichmeans that they are eitherstored or used as energy. Incase of inherited metabolicdisease, the patient lackscertain enzymes, which leadto an accumulation of unmetabolizedcompounds. Theseaccumulated compoundscause a severe toxicityacting on the nervoussystem, then they restrictand delay development andgrowth resulting in prematuredeath. For a quickscreening Liquid Chromatographywith Tandem MassSpectrometry is sometimesemployed, however, for aclose inspection and a highrisk screening of the organicacids, the best analyticaltechnique is Gas Chromatographycoupled to MassSpectrometry (GCMS).Here, we present a FastGCMS method that increasethe daily throughput ofanalysis.
