Example of Observation of CNF-Containing Foamed Plastic by inspeXio™ SMX™-100 CT

This article introduces an example in which foamed plastic containing cellulose nanofibers (CNF), a high performance new material of biological origin, as a reinforcing material was observed with an inspeXio SMX-100CT micro focus X-ray CT system. High density polyethylene (HDPE) for use in a tensile test was observed under four conditions comprising combinations of the foamed or non-foamed state and with or without fiber content, and the differences in the size and distribution of voids and the state of the fibers were shown in images.
