Evaluation of Fiber Length and Dispersibility of Mono-Dispersed Cellulose Nanofibers

The lack of an established evaluation method for the basic physical properties of cellulose nanofibers (CNF) is one current issue. Application News No. S30 introduced a method for measuring the fiber length and width with a scanning probe microscope (SPM). This article examines the use of a particle size analyzer as a technique for rapid evaluation of large quantities of fibers in quality control applications at production sites.
The results showed a good correlation with the results obtained by SPM. The dispersibility of CNF in solutions was also evaluated with an ultraviolet visible spectrophotometer.
