Automatic Shape Observation and Efficient Length Measurement of Fiber Length/Diameter of Cellulose Nanofibers

Because it is known that the physical properties of cellulose nanofibers (CNF) are related to the fiber length and fiber diameter, there is a heightened need for characterization of single CNF in development and manufacturing. However, improvement of characterization efficiency has become an issue, as shape observation and length/diameter measurement of several thousand individual fibers are necessary in characterization of CNF.
In this article, automatic observation of CNF and length measurement of the fiber length/diameter using a scanning probe microscope (SPM) were realized.
