Visualization of the Additive Layer in Vicinity of Negative Electrode in Electrolyte Using SPM-8100FM and Electrochemical Solution Cell in Secondary Batteries

The battery performance of secondary batteries has been enhanced by additives to the electrolyte. SPM-8100FM can detect smaller forces than conventional AFM. This paper reports the first successful visualization of the additive layer by cross-sectional imaging of the vicinity of the negative electrode of a lead acid battery using an SPM-8100FM and an electrochemical solution cell. Application of this technique to analyses of secondary batteries and metal corrosion protection processes is expected.
