Three-point Bending Flexural Test for Plastics

Previous standards for a three-point bending flexural test for plastics did not require a displacement meter. However, tests by this method were not suitable for precise measurement of the modulus of elasticity since the detected deflection included the deflection of the specimen and test frame as well as the indentations by the indenters. Amended standards stipulate that a JIS B 7741 Class 1 deflectometer (absolute accuracy within 1 %) must be used or compliance correction must be made.
In this research, a three-point bending flexural test was conducted using a deflectometer in compliance with ISO 178 and JIS K 7171.
