Tensile Test of Metallic Material by Strain Rate Control Using an Automatic Extensometer

In the revisions of the standards ISO 6892/JIS Z 2241 for tensile testing of metallic materials, strain rate control (measurement of strain with an extensometer) was added as a test item in addition to the conventional stress rate control as a method for loading materials to their yield point.
In this article, a tensile test of a metallic material was conducted by strain rate control using a Shimadzu SIE automatic extensometer, demonstrating that testing which amply satisfies the specified strain rate tolerance of ±20% is possible with this device.
