LiB Webinar 2022

Strength Evaluation of Lithium-Ion Battery Components Using Shimadzu Testing Machines

The testing machines can evaluate mechanical properties such as intensity by applying loads such as tension and compression. This presentation will introduce various materials used in lithium-ion batteries, and describe evaluating the strength of separators using a tensile testing machine and evaluating the strength of positive electrode active materials using a micro compression testing machine.

LiB Webinar 2022

Thermal Characterization of Lithium-Ion Battery Materials

In order to study the safety of lithium-ion batteries, it is crucial to evaluate the thermal properties of the materials used in each component. This presentation will introduce an example of the thermal characterization of separators and active materials using DSC, TGA, and TMA, which are typical methods used for thermal analysis.

LiB Webinar 2022

Analysis of Lithium-Ion Battery by Microfocus X-Ray CT

Microfocus X-ray CT is used for structural analysis of lithium-ion battery cells because it enables non-destructive three-dimensional observation of the internal structure of products. This presentation will introduce many examples of observing the internal structure of different types of batteries and of observing degraded batteries.

LiB Webinar 2022

Elemental Mapping and State Analysis of the Positive Electrode of LIB by EPMATM

EPMAs are widely used in LIB research and development, quality assessment, and defect analysis. Here, we will introduce analysis examples, including evaluating the elemental distribution of active materials, binders, conductive aids, and electrolytes contained in LIB positive electrode materials and evaluating the chemical bonding state in minute portions of the active materials.

LiB Webinar 2022

Solution by Scanning Probe Microscope (SPM) from Separator Evaluation to In-Situ Observation

A scanning probe microscope (SPM) is a powerful tool for observing and measuring the three-dimensional shape and local physical properties of a sample at high magnification. From observing the shape of the separator and evaluating conductivity in the positive electrode to imaging the electrode surface in an electrolyte solution in conditions close to the real environment, this presentation will introduce a variety of solutions using SPM.

Upcoming Themes

  • Measurement Examples and Defect Analysis of Lithium-Ion Battery Materials
  • Surface Imaging of Electrode Materials for All-Solid-State Batteries
  • Non-Destructive Observation of Cylindrical/Laminated/In-Vehicle Large Batteries
