Sharing the Latest Mass Spectrometry Solutions and Research Results with the World at ASMS 2026
Shimadzu Scientific Instruments, Inc. (SSI), the North American subsidiary of Shimadzu’s Analytical and Measuring Instruments Division, based in Columbia, Maryland, exhibited at the 74th Annual American Society for Mass Spectrometry Conference (ASMS 2026), held in San Diego, California, USA, from May 31 to June 4.
At the event, SSI presented the latest solutions in mass spectrometry, held multiple breakfast seminars, and hosted a hospitality suite. In addition, researchers from Shimadzu delivered oral and poster presentations showcasing cutting-edge mass spectrometry technologies and research achievements.
Each year, SSI creates a “Kick Some Mass” logo inspired by the host city. This logo is used for promotional activities before and during the event and is featured prominently in its booth and hospitality suite.
ASMS: One of the World’s Largest Mass Spectrometry Conferences
ASMS (The American Society for Mass Spectrometry) is one of the world’s largest academic societies in the field of mass spectrometry. Its annual meeting is held in a different host city each year, and in 2026 the conference took place in San Diego.
At the San Diego Convention Center, researchers, university representatives, and corporate attendees from around the world gathered to present and discuss the latest research findings and technological developments. San Diego, home to a concentration of life science and biotechnology companies, is widely recognized as one of the key R&D hubs in the field of mass spectrometry.
SSI’s Exhibit and Introduction of the Latest Solutions
In addition to its exhibition booth, SSI hosted breakfast seminars and a hospitality suite.
A large video display was installed at the booth, creating a cohesive space themed around “Kick Some Mass.” The hospitality suite served two purposes. During the day, Shimadzu personnel hosted researchers and users, demonstrating instruments and software in a relaxed atmosphere that allowed lively discussions.
At night, the suite served as the primary focal point for visitors to have fun, engage with one another, and enjoy the night. During the nights, visitors were offered various novelty items, including t-shirts, socks, and GIANTmicrobes (stuffed toy), making it a popular destination for all attendees.
On display were the LCMS-9050, a quadrupole time-of-flight liquid chromatograph mass spectrometer (Q-TOF LC-MS), which is used for a wide range of applications, including drug discovery, environmental analysis, and food safety evaluation; the CLAM-2040, which automates workflows from sample preparation to analysis and supports improved efficiency in research and testing; as well as MALDI-TOF imaging-related solutions, LC-MS/MS, and GC-MS/MS systems. These and other displays served to highlight Shimadzu’s extensive portfolio of mass spectrometry platforms.

Delivering Shimadzu Group Research Achievements to the World
At ASMS 2026, researchers and engineers from Shimadzu Group companies around the world, including the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, and China, gave approximately 60 poster presentations on a wide range of topics such as environmental analysis, life sciences, pharmaceutical development, and mass spectrometry imaging.
Presentations included a focus on PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) analysis, analytical technologies supporting the development of next-generation pharmaceuticals, such as nucleic acid drugs and peptide drugs, and non-target analysis using MALDI imaging and AI.
Non-target analysis is a method that broadly searches for components in a sample without predefining target substances. Combined with AI and advanced data analysis technologies, it is expected to be applied to the discovery of unknown environmental contaminants and new pharmaceutical metabolites.
Many of the research themes presented by the Shimadzu Group at ASMS 2026 are closely related to our daily lives and social challenges, including ensuring the safety of water and food, developing new medicines, and advancing our understanding of disease mechanisms. Shimadzu Group companies around the world are combining the knowledge and expertise cultivated in their respective regions to address these challenges through innovations in mass spectrometry technologies.
