Labmate Awards Received for Both Shimadzu Corporation’s 150 Years of Measures and the Nexera QX LC-MS/MS System

The “Labmate Awards for Excellence 2025” are sponsored by Labmate, a publisher that specializes in analytical and life science fields. This year, Shimadzu received the top “Michael Pattison Award” for overall excellence for 150 Years of Contribution to Science and received the “Best Separation Science Innovation Award” for the Nexera QX Multiplex high performance liquid chromatograph system.
New Global Labmate Awards for Analytical and Life Science

Labmate is a journal run by International Labmate Ltd., a publishing company based in England. Originally founded in 1974 by chemist Michael Pattison, the journal has now expanded globally. This year, for the first time Labmate Awards were issued based on an application basis, which generated over several hundred applications for 11 categories. Each award was selected by popular vote from 99 applications that remained for the final selection after the initial selection by the review committee. The Michael Pattison Award recipient for overall excellence was decided from among those remaining 99.
The award certificate and trophy were received by employees of Shimadzu UK Limited (SUK), Shimadzu’s UK Group company, at the Solutions in Science conference held in Brighton, England, from July 15 to July 17.

Best Separation Science Innovation Award
Nexera QX Multiplex High Performance Liquid Chromatograph System

Of the 11 award categories, the Nexera QX Multiplex System was selected to receive the Best Separation Science Innovation Award. The system is configured with a high performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC) connected to a mass spectrometer (MS) and was developed jointly by Shimadzu Scientific Instruments in partnership with a customer, starting in 2019. The system is able to alternate between multiple flow channels for use in injecting samples. That means samples can be injected quickly and cleanly via respective channels to significantly increase mass spectrometer operating efficiency. Furthermore, the monitoring functionality checks the analysis status of each flow channel and checks for errors in real time. That functionality attracted attention as a revolutionary solution that maximizes laboratory productivity and resulted in receiving the award. One reason given for the award is the clear benefits it offers in terms of productivity, automation, and operating resilience.
Michael Pattison Award for 150 Years of Contribution to Science by Shimadzu Corporation

Shimadzu Corporation was selected to receive the Michael Pattison Award for overall excellence due to 150 years of contribution to science. In addition to contributing to analytical and life science industries for the past 150 years, Shimadzu was also selected due to its ongoing measures for fostering next-generation human resources and its many collaborations with partners. SUK free training sessions for all vendors, publication of a 150th anniversary commemorative magazine featuring comments by analytical users, and other measures were also praised. Comments by the review committee included “The awards not only reflect the cutting-edge solutions offered but also reflect Shimadzu’s attitude of continuing to provide ongoing unwavering support to customers and partners. They represent our appreciation for a company that has developed exceptional technologies and contributed to the advancement of science for over 150 years.”
