Innovation Campus Opens to Advance South Korea’s High-Tech Industries

On March 19, 2026, Shimadzu Scientific Korea (SSK), a Shimadzu Group company, opened the Innovation Campus—a technology hub for addressing customer challenges—in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, in the Seoul metropolitan area. The campus serves as a new hub for South Korea's high-tech industries, supporting analysis, human resource development, and collaborative research.

Seoul to Handle Sales and Service; Gwacheon to Provide Technical Support

Established in 2018, SSK’s Head Office is located in Seoul and plays a central role in its sales, service, and business operations. The newly opened Innovation Campus in Gwacheon was established as a technical support hub to draw our customers closer and respond more quickly to their needs. The facility brings together sales, service, and technical support functions to help customers solve their challenges.

Gwacheon is easily accessible, located just a 40-minute drive from central Seoul, and is close to government research institutions and major industrial areas. Leveraging these geographical advantages, the new campus provides an ideal environment for promoting collaboration with customers and research institutions.

Meeting the Needs of the Korean High-Tech Sector

Korea is highly competitive in industries such as semiconductors, battery technologies, advanced materials, biopharmaceuticals, environmental science, and energy, all of which offer strong growth potential. In these cutting-edge industries, demand for analytical instruments is high and is expected to keep growing.

To balance development speed and quality, analytical technologies for the accurate evaluation of materials and products have become essential. Customers increasingly expect more than analytical instruments alone. They also seek closer technical collaboration, including application support, method development, training, technical verification, and joint research.

To meet these advanced needs in the Korean market, the Innovation Campus was established.

A Hub to Train the Next Generation of Researchers and Engineers

The Innovation Campus also serves as a place where people can learn hands-on with actual equipment. Through training and technical seminars, they can develop practical analytical skills and learn how to make effective use of data.

Furthermore, workshops with universities and research institutions are expanding opportunities for joint research and fostering connections with the next generation of researchers and engineers, helping nurture future research collaborations.

A Laboratory Supporting Research and Reliability Testing

The 1,300-square-meter lab is equipped with Shimadzu’s latest analytical instruments, including the LCMS-8060RX, MALDI-8030, Nexera series, GCMS-QP2020NX, Nexis GC-2030, ICPMS-2050, ICPE-9820, UV-3600i Plus, AIRsight, and TOC-L.

The facility supports a broad range of analytical applications, including materials analysis, structural analysis, and environmental analysis. Furthermore, at the Battery Solution Center (tentative name) located on the same campus, material properties can be evaluated and product reliability assessed using the AGS-X, MCT-510, ALTRACE, and automated tensile testing systems.

Used in combination, these instruments can help address complex challenges in areas such as semiconductor material analysis, safety and performance evaluation of rechargeable batteries, reliability assessment of automotive materials, and environmental analysis related to PFAS.

Campus Layout Designed with Research Environments in Mind

The campus layout was designed by Shimadzu Rika Corporation, a Japan-based Shimadzu Group company responsible for laboratory design and the manufacture and sale of laboratory equipment and environmental systems, including laboratory benches and fume hoods. It was created to closely replicate users' actual research environments. The laboratory benches use Shimadzu Rika Corporation's first all-steel model, the Esquisse Steel.

Comment from the Person in Charge

I believe the most distinctive feature of the Innovation Campus is its ability to support various stages of research and development in a single location.

Customers can access specialized technical support and services in one place, and by collaborating with Shimadzu’s global research and technology network, we can provide faster, more accurate support.

Through this campus, we aim to inspire new research ideas among our customers and help strengthen the analytical capabilities needed for research and industrial applications.
