Turbomolecular Pumps Supporting the World’s Most Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing
A Reliable Supply and Service Network Established in Taiwan
Semiconductors are electronic components that precisely control the flow of electricity, supporting generative AI processing and smartphone operation. A vacuum is one of the key requirements for stable semiconductor manufacturing.

During manufacturing, multiple layers of intricate circuits, with features measured in nanometers, are formed on a semiconductor wafer. A high-vacuum environment, free of dust and gas contaminants, is essential inside manufacturing equipment. In addition, much semiconductor manufacturing equipment must operate continuously for 24 hours to ensure consistent quality and maintain productivity. The components and services that support this type of manufacturing equipment must be highly reliable.
STI: Supplying Turbomolecular Pumps and Providing After-Sales Service in Taiwan
Shimadzu turbomolecular pumps (TMPs) are vacuum pumps that remove air and gases from semiconductor manufacturing equipment to create a high-vacuum environment.

Taiwan is one of the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturing hubs. Shimadzu Taiwan Industrial Machinery Co., Ltd. (STI), a local subsidiary of the Shimadzu Group, supports semiconductor manufacturers in Taiwan by ensuring a reliable supply of TMPs and providing prompt maintenance services.
Established in 2007, STI now has 71 employees, approximately 80 % of whom are engaged in service operations.

Keeping Semiconductor Production Running
In the semiconductor market, changes in demand can lead to production plans being revised at short notice. STI has strengthened its demand forecasting and inventory management to ensure that the right products are available when needed. These efforts help semiconductor manufacturers maintain stable production.
Combining Speed with High-Quality Service
When problems with equipment occur, a rapid response is essential. STI has established systems for repairs and overhauls to help customers get their equipment back up and running as quickly as possible. Microscopic particles can cause defects during semiconductor circuit fabrication, so strict controls are needed to minimize both their generation and their entry into the manufacturing process. To meet these quality requirements, TMP maintenance and inspections are conducted in a dedicated clean room to ensure strict quality control. Taiwan is also prone to earthquakes. Taking this into account, STI recommends equipment designed to protect TMPs from vibration, helping reduce risks and improve operational reliability.

Building Customer Trust to Drive Business Growth
By helping to overcome challenges encountered in manufacturing operations, STI has built lasting customer trust through comprehensive support—ranging from product supply to maintenance services and quality improvement.
The expertise and service capabilities developed in Taiwan are important assets supporting the Shimadzu Group’s TMP business. STI will continue to support the world’s most advanced semiconductor manufacturing and contribute to the progress of our increasingly digital society.
