Shimadzu Review 78[1・2] (2021)

Abstract

The Fluidics System Division at Shimadzu Corporation supplies many compact hydraulic units (power packages) to the logistics sector. These power packages deliver hydraulic pressure to a raising and lowering device (liftgate) installed on the rear of trucks. The liftgate is used to raise and lower cargo from the truck bed to the ground and has substantially improved the efficiency of delivery by truck. These power packages use DC motors to drive the hydraulic pump, and brushed DC motors are used in all power packages. Customers who frequently use their liftgate wear out these brushes after several years and must periodically replace either the brushes in the motor or the motor itself. A recent rapid increase in the delivery of individual items and a shortage of delivery drivers is creating a demand for improved liftgate operation efficiency, improved shipping quality, and noise reduction. To meet customer demands and resolve the above-mentioned issues, we have developed a power package with a brushless DC motor that offers low noise, excellent control, and superior durability. This article provides an overview of this power package.
