Shimadzu Review 78[1・2] (2021)

Abstract

We have developed the SWIS-12 single wire rope inspection system capable of detecting internal wire breaks with high accuracy in steel wire ropes used by elevators and cranes not otherwise apparent by visual examination. A non-contact detection method based on the principle behind flux leakage testing is used. The sensor unit has a split-frame clamshell design that improves ease of installation in wire rope production lines and fatigue testing machines. The SWIS-12 can also be controlled directly from a production line PLC device and automatically send measurement data to computers on a network.
