Shimadzu Review 81[1・2] (2024)
Abstract
Customers are making more and more inquiries about the carbon footprint and energy consumption of products due to prevailing trends related to climate change mitigation and the circular economy. In 2010, Shimadzu launched its Save the Energy ” project to cut the energy consumption of flagship products by 25%. This project led to the establishment of various initiatives at Shimadzu aimed at reducing the environmental impact of its products by reducing energy usage and other methods. One of these initiatives included awarding an EcoEco-Products Plus ” certification (a type II environmental label) to products with standout environmental attributes; an initiative intended to promote environmentallyenvironmentally-friendly product development at Shimadzu. This article describes the background to the Eco Eco-Products Plus initiative, Shimadzuʼs thinking behind the initiative, its effectiveness, and future prospects.
