-Investigation of Direct Testing Methods from Food Culture Media-
Shimadzu Review 81[3・4] (2024)
Abstract
Food producers typically used culture-based methods to test for foodborne pathogens in food, then a growing demand for shorter testing times led to the development of PCR-based tests. However, the PCR-based tests available today still have major issues, such as the need for complex sample processing and high costs. We used Shimadzuʼs Ampdirect technology to develop real-time PCR assays (the FS Finder series) that can detect foodborne pathogens with minimal sample processing. This article describes a Salmonella spp. detection kit developed with primers and probes already in use in existing kits and published in past reports, and the Vibrio parahaemolyticus detection kit that is currently in development.
