Shimadzu Review 82[1・2] (2025)

Abstract

Ever since Shimadzu Corporation was founded, the company has been publishing journals intended to promote the broad adoption of science and technology and to describe products. This article mainly describes the role of the Shimadzu magazines “Journal of Physico-Chemical Technology,” published since 1886, and Science, published since 1911, within and outside Shimadzu. The former was intended to educate readers about the modernization of traditional industries and provide knowledge about science and technology. The latter was intended to contribute broadly to the advancement of the practical sciences and industry by sharing knowledge about cutting-edge technologies achieved through connections between industry and academia with readers in teaching and industrial fields. The article also addresses the history of launching Shimadzu Review in 1940 as a successor to those journals that continues to be published today and as the foundation for sharing technical information from Shimadzu.
