Observation of Cellulose Fiber

Observation of Cellulose Fiber

Cellulose is commonly observed using an SEM. However, this method of observation is less reliable due to damage or build-up of charge from the electron beam. In this example, an SPM was used for observation of cellulose fiber from wood, which resulted in stable images of fibers from a diameter of 30 to 300 nm. A display output of 10 cm x 10 cm image on paper or monitor screen requires a magnification of about 100,000 times.
