Gold Ultrathin Nanowires

Gold Ultrathin Nanowires were observed in air. Nanowires are a new material that is expected to be applied in areas such as pressure sensors and nanocoils.

The structure of the nanowires supported on a substrate was observed (Figs. 1 and 2), as was a bundle structure formed by a number of nanowires (Fig. 3).

The image in Fig. 3 is a superposition of height and phase images, which clearly shows the bundle structure of nanowires.
