Environmental Health Innovation Center Opened in Hangzhou China
Developing Opportunities in Environmental Fields by Strengthening Collaborations with Cutting-Edge Researchers
Shimadzu (China) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “SSL”), a Shimadzu Group company in China, established the “UCAS-SHIMADZU Environmental Health Innovation Center” within the School of Environment at Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and held the opening ceremony on April 25.
The School of Environment at Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences was established in 2020 as a new research facility that serves as a base of research resources and specialized knowledge for the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences which is an advanced institution for environmental research. Hangzhou City, which is the capital of Zhejiang Province and a city that generates many innovations, is aiming to become a center for water, soil, and air-related environmental analysis. By jointly establishing the Environmental Health Innovation Center in Hangzhou, SSL intends to develop stronger partnerships with environmental researchers in China and cultivate more opportunities in environmental fields.
At the Environmental Health Innovation Center, SSL will collaborate with outside researchers to research and develop analytical applications and new application systems. The center has already produced results, such as by developing a method for simultaneous analysis of multiple PFAS components, and intends to continue development in accordance with environmental regulatory needs in China. A Shimadzu LCMS-8060NX liquid chromatograph mass spectrometer, GCMS-TQ8050NX gas chromatograph mass spectrometer, and EDX-7200 energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer are installed in the laboratory inside the center.
Shimadzu’s medium-term management plan specifies expanding businesses outside Japan and investing efforts to contribute to the “Well-being of the Earth” in the green domain. The newly opened Environmental Health Innovation Center is expected to generate new development projects and help continue to offer solutions for the environmental measurement field.
