— Advancing Research and Development in Water Purification and Hydrogen Production —

Shimadzu Corporation (Shimadzu) has established a laboratory in the Aqua Regeneration Central Hub (ARCH), a research center opened by Shinshu University on 25 July. After signing a comprehensive partnership agreement in August 2024, Shimadzu and Shinshu University began a search for projects involving cutting-edge technology in water and energy, examining opportunities for Shimadzu’s analytical and measuring technologies, and training researchers and engineers from both parties. The newly established Shinshu University & Shimadzu Water Quality Research Center (provisional name) has been equipped with a Shimadzu LCMS-8060RX liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometer, a GCMS-QP2020 NX gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer, and other equipment. Shimadzu will collaborate in areas such as using Shindai Crystals and other advanced materials in water purification and water recycling, and the generation and utilization of hydrogen produced from water, which holds promise as a next-generation energy resource.

In FY 2023, Shinshu University was selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to receive funding under the Program for Forming Japan’s Peak Research Universities (J-PEAKS). Through collaborative research with Shinshu University, Shimadzu will advance the development of next-generation energy sources and help bring about a decarbonized society.
