Shimadzu Corporation tennis team “SHIMADZU Breakers” player Rina Komokata, who is part of the Corporate Communication Department, won the singles title at the 9th JDTA Championships held at Ariake Tennis Park (Tokyo Japan) on July 12. The park is the venue for the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics, which are to be held in November, and this was her second consecutive win, following her win last year. In the final, Komokata's opponent was Yuria Miyagawa of Nihon University, who was also selected to represent Japan in the Deaflympics. Komokata won a close 7-5 match. The following day, on the 13th, Komokata won the JDTA Open Tournament in women's doubles with Riko Suzuki (NTT Urban Development Corporation) and mixed doubles with Naoto Oyamatsu (KAJIMAROAD Co.,Ltd.), securing victories in all three singles and doubles events despite a grueling schedule of 10 matches over two days.

Komokata commented, "Since this was a one-set match tournament, I focused on how to start each game. In the singles final, I was down 1-4 when my opponent pushed me to the limit, However I believe in myself, playing tenaciously, and reduced mistakes. In the women's doubles, we discussed a strategy in advance, and I think we were able to play while bringing out the best in each other. It had been a while since I played mixed doubles, but my opponent in the final was someone I had lost to before, so I focused on what I could do while keeping a challenger's mindset. Winning all the events gave me a lot of confidence. I have limited time before the Deaflympics, so I want to work on correcting issues in my game one by one and work hard to be in the best shape possible.”

Komokata won the singles championship and was the runner-up in the 2024 Australian Open Deaf Tennis Competition while studying at Doshisha University, and won two titles in the same tournament in January of this year in Deaf Tennis in which hearing-impaired players compete. She has been selected as a member of Japan’s national team for the Deaflympics in Tokyo, an international sports event for athelete with hearing impaired, which will be held in this November. She aims to win medals in the singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events.
