Shimadzu Corporation has released 3 models of UV-VIS spectrophotometers globally. The UV-1900i Plus, UV-2600i Plus, and UV-2700i Plus, the successor models to the UV-i Selection, provide wide-ranging support for the needs of users. This includes high-level operability through a variety of user support functions, as well as a wealth of functions for accommodating standards.

A UV-VIS spectrophotometer (UV) is an analysis instrument that investigates the chemical structure of substances and the concentration of components in samples. It uses the fact that when visible light and ultraviolet rays pass through a substance, a portion of the light energy is lost (light energy absorption). These instruments are used in a variety of fields by universities, chemical companies, and pharmaceutical companies. However, in accordance with a reduction in the number of users with experience operating such instruments, there is an increasing need to obtain reliable data more easily.

Due to hardware improvements, these products have improved measurement performance, enabling more reliable, higher sensitivity measurements than previous models. 1. Enabling High-Sensitivity Measurements

Due to hardware improvements, in addition to wavelength repeatability accuracy, which enables the accurate reproduction of the wavelength detected, performance with respect to noise level has been improved. With the UV-2600i Plus/2700i Plus, wavelength repeatability has been improved by 2.5 times, and with the UV-1900i Plus, the noise level has been reduced by 25 %. 2. Equipped with a Variety of User Support Functions

For the first time in a Shimadzu UV, these models are equipped with shutdown and wake up functions enabling the instrument to enter sleep mode and start up automatically, and an assist function to prevent operational mistakes by displaying a confirmation window. Additionally, the UV-1900i Plus is equipped with a startup validation function to check performance automatically when the instrument starts up. Even users with little instrument expertise or experience can obtain stable data.

3. Strengthened Software-Based Quantitative Data Analysis Functions

Previous models were equipped with a pass/fail determination function (spectral evaluation function) that operated automatically depending on the preregistered conditions. This function has been extended to measure the amount of each component in the sample (quantitative analysis), and to evaluate whether or not each amount is within the standard value range. Additionally, it can now calculate a scale (Hazen unit color number) to digitize the color of the sample. Further, to prevent tampering with these analysis results, it now supports regulations related to data integrity. This enables the confident implementation of quantitative determinations and color evaluations used in raw material inspections in the chemical and pharmaceutical fields.
