Nexera X4 Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatograph

On March 3, Shimadzu Corporation will globally release the Nexera X4 ultra high performance liquid chromatograph system. In the pharmaceutical and other analytical fields, there is growing demand for highly reliable analysis that clearly separates and detects target components from impurities. This product combines the industry's highest level of separation performance with ultrafast analysis, contributing to improving the quality and speed of R & D and quality control operations.

In recent years, research and development in the fields of pharmaceuticals, food, the environment, and chemistry have become increasingly diverse and complex. In particular, drug discovery requires rapid screening of candidate compounds and evaluation of impurities. In quality control, impurities and quality attributes must be consistently managed from raw materials to final products. In the environmental field, it is also important to accurately measure trace components in order to ensure safety and comply with regulations. As a result, there is increasing demand for liquid chromatographs that can reliably capture trace components and exhibit stable performance and reproducibility even under high-speed conditions.

Nexera X4 is a next-generation ultra high performance liquid chromatograph (UHPLC) that builds on the advanced technologies of the Nexera series. The industry-leading * low-diffusion design delivers sharp peaks and unprecedented separation performance. In addition, the state-of-the-art fluid control technology provides high solvent flow stability even during high-speed analyses under ultra-high pressure, increasing laboratory productivity by up to 14 times. Shimadzu intends to use this product to improve the productivity of various analytical sites, including those in the pharmaceutical field, and to contribute to the acceleration of R & D and quality assurance activities worldwide.

  • * Diffusion outside the column (ECBB value): 7 μL
The ECBB value quantifies peak broadening caused by system components in the apparatus (Piping, injection section, detector cell, etc.) other than the column as a volume (μL). The smaller the value, the less the peak spread caused by the apparatus, and the better the separation performance of the column.

Features

1. Enhanced Separation Performance with Reduced Peak Broadening

Proprietary Nexflow technology suppresses peak broadening without changing the internal diameter of tubing. This results in sharp peaks and high separation performance. It also prevents overlap between component peaks and enables identification of trace impurities and similar components, which improves the reliability of analytical results.

2. Higher Laboratory Productivity with Ultra-Fast Analysis

Our unique solvent flow control technology reduces analysis time by up to 92% compared to conventional HPLC. Stable analysis quality is maintained even under high-speed conditions, allowing more analytes to be processed and greatly increasing laboratory productivity.

3. Reduced Solvent Consumption

With high precision injection of trace samples, accurate solvent delivery, and suppressed diffusion within flow paths, the Nexera X4 enables consistent analysis even when using narrow-bore columns. Reducing the quantities of solvents consumed and liquid waste discarded helps reduce costs and minimize environmental impacts.
