Shimadzu released the EDX-8100P Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer in Europe. This highly versatile model, which is exclusively for Europe, can analyze even light elements in liquid samples with high sensitivity. In November 2016, Shimadzu released the EDX-7000P and EDX-8000P Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometers. Both products obtained BfS certification*, a type of safety certification from the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS), and they can be used in a variety of applications. The EDX-8100P Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer is our newest BfS certified product.

The introduction of the EDX-8100P that is particularly suited to the analysis of light elements in liquids, in addition to the EDX-7000P and EDX-8000P that can easily analyze elements regardless of the form of the sample, creates a lineup of three energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometers for the European market. This will expand sales in pharmaceuticals, foods, and chemical related industries and in public test and research organizations, as well as to universities and contract research organizations.

* Products with the BfS certification can reduce management costs, as users are not required to obtain a qualification, and an annual instrument X-ray leakage inspection is not required.

Features of the New Product

1. High Sensitivity Analysis Ranging from Light Elements to Heavy Elements

Normally, liquid samples as well as samples containing water or oil could not be placed under vacuum for analysis. However, using a helium purge unit (sold separately), elements including light elements (from fluorine to aluminum) can be analyzed with high sensitivity. In the analysis of solids and powders, adding a vacuum measurement unit (sold separately) enables the detection of elements from carbon to uranium.

2. Highly Expandable and Versatile

Combining this instrument with optional parts and a built in camera enables the consecutive analysis of multiple samples, screening analyses compatible with a variety of standards, contaminant analysis, and high sensitivity analysis of trace elements.

3. Europe-Specific Specifications

This product has obtained certification as a fully shielded instrument under the German X-ray safety standards. A safety label is available in English as well as seven different European languages, for greater usability.
