GUANGXI-ASEAN Food Inspection Center and Shimadzu (China) to Launch Collaboration for Food Safety Inspection and Testing

On December 16, 2021, GUANGXI-ASEAN Food Inspection Center (Nanning, Guangxi) and Shimadzu (China) Co., Ltd. concluded an agreement of a collaborative project for the advancement of food inspection. This is the first project for Shimadzu (China) Co., Ltd. to launch a collaboration with a food safety lab in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, located in the southern part of China.

 

GUANGXI-ASEAN Food Inspection Center

GUANGXI-ASEAN Food Inspection Center is a public institution under the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Administration for Market Regulation. The center leads sampling and testing technology for food safety in the region by undertaking both national and local food inspection. Also, the center performs related technical supervisions in Guangxi, such as the selection and assessment of food sampling and inspection contractors, and the verification and evaluation of rapid testing equipment for food safety.

During the past three years, the center has been highly ranked among the national inspection agencies for food sampling inspection tasks. At present, it is the largest professional institution for food inspection in Guangxi.

Ceremony of Signing Agreement

At the ceremony, Zhou Songyu, Director of GUANGXI-ASEAN Food Inspection Center, and Zhu Jinghua, Deputy Director of the Sales Department, Analytical & Measuring Instruments Division, Shimadzu (China) Co., Ltd., officially signed a collaboration agreement under which both party confirmed that they would closely work for the advancement of science and technology and contribute to the future of food safety.

Zhu Jinghua provided a brief overview of Shimadzu’s 146-year history. In addition, Shimadzu’s activities in the food safety field were explained, such as its commitment to the Institute of Quality Standard and Testing Technology for Agro-products of CAAS, Agro-Environmental Protection Institute, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and Oil Crops Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Zhu Jinghua mentioned that he hopes this partnership will bring technological innovation and trust in safer food to the region.

Workshop to Share Research and Technology for Food Safety

In the afternoon, a technical workshop was made and their experts of both Shimadzu and GUANGXI-ASEAN Food Inspection Center shared recent research results on food safety and the latest applications. Firstly, Mr. Zhang Ronglin, Deputy Director of Second Food Inspection Department of GUANGXI-ASEAN Food Inspection Center, presented "Research on Aroma Components of Jasmine Flowers and their Processed Products". He explained the qualitative and quantitative analysis of aroma components in jasmine flowers and their processed products, and provided details on the analysis of data generated using Shimadzu’s GC-MS/MS. Secondly, Dr. Liu Jia Ling, Deputy Director of First Food Inspection Department of the Center, introduced "Research on the Detection of Illegal Additives", while listing typical cases shown in the center’s detection. She also mentioned the detailed characteristics of illegal additives in food and healthcare food.

Thirdly, Dr. Pan Chen Song, Manager of the Marketing Department, Analytical & Measuring Instruments Division, Shimadzu (China) Co., Ltd., and experts discussed the features of high-resolution liquid mass technology for non-targeted screening and confirmation of risky substances. In addition, he introduced Shimadzu’s Q-TOF LCMS technologies and updates of the method package development. Finally, Ms. Yin Tao, Head of Food Third Party Industry, Marketing Department, Shimadzu Analytical & Measurement Division, provided updates on the national food safety standard. Also, she introduced new applications focused on illegal additives and pesticide residues using Shimadzu’s LC-MS/MS.

Comment from the Person in Charge

This center is currently focused on two projects: fragrance analysis of jasmine flower and its processed products, and determination of the illegal additives in food and health products. Moving forward, Shimadzu will expand its collaborative network with users to develop projects and deepen cooperation with the local society.

Thanks to this initiative between GUANGXI-ASEAN Food Inspection Center and Shimadzu (China) Co., Ltd., the inspection of food safety in the region will be accelerated. They will continuously work together to ensure the safety of food.
