Shimadzu China: Hosting Family Day and Participatory Online Events
Since advancing into the Chinese market in 1956, Shimadzu has continued to develop business activities in China for more than half a century. With its head office in Shanghai, Shimadzu (China) Co., Ltd. (SSL) is the Group company with management functionality in China. In addition to deploying product sales and service in China, they have their own resource for product development and design, as well as procurement. They shoulder significant responsibility within the global development and production systems. SSL hosts Family Day every year, in conjunction with Children’s Day in China. In May of this year, all of the SSL branch offices planned events for the occasion, and more than 600 employees and their families participated. A special cake was available at the venue, decorated with the 150th anniversary commemorative logo. In addition, science classes were planned for the children, and experiments were conducted using a Wimshurst electrostatic generator produced in collaboration with Shimadzu RIKA Corporation and Gakken.

A “Dream Traveler” event is hosted at an SSL special website. They distributed special fans to their employees, customers, and associates, and are collecting submissions of photos of people with the fans, at their favorite places or vacation destinations. In addition, with “Your Dreams” as the theme, people are sharing the places they have photographed and their thoughts on their own dreams. They plan to select the best works from participants every month, every three months, and yearly, and to award prizes at the end of the year. Comments and photos delivered from various places in China can be viewed on the special website.

Comments from the SSL Event Organizers
In celebrating our 150th anniversary, an event called “Dream Traveler” has been planned to create an opportunity for employees and customers to connect and mutually share their dreams and thoughts. Taking Japan’s first successful manned balloon flight, which was accomplished by our founder, Genzo Shimadzu Sr., as a motif, we have created commemorative fans as a symbol linking dreams and eras.
At present, we have received a variety of submissions. These submissions cover topics such as travel, everyday moments, weddings and other personal milestones. All of them are replete with good wishes on our 150th anniversary, hopes for the future, and expectations for the next generation. Through this campaign linking everyone’s dreams with our corporate history, we continue our progress toward the future based on our corporate philosophy of Contributing to Society through Science and Technology.
Shimadzu do Brasil: Exhibiting a Special Booth Commemorating Our 150th Anniversary
Shimadzu began operating in Brazil in 1988. Shimadzu do Brasil Comércio Ltda. (SBL) was established in 1997 as a Group company in this region. The Head Office is located in Barueri, São Paulo, a place with good access to the city center and where many corporate offices are gathered. At present, more than 200 employees work together to provide customers in Brazil with sales and service for analytical & measuring instruments and medical systems.
In May of this year, SBL exhibited at JPR 2025 and Hospitalar 2025, hosted in São Paulo. JPR is an annual radiological conference and exhibition attended by about 20,000 people. Hospitalar is a hospital-related exhibition of equipment and services. These exhibitions are the largest in South and Central America, with attendance this year exceeding 80,000 visitors.

SBL exhibited a specially-designed booth, aiming to convey the technological capabilities of the Shimadzu Group and our 150-year history in a captivating way. In line with Brazilian culture, which favors social media, they established a space modeled on a Japanese tea room with a vibrant and eye-catching design, and a photo space shaped like a balloon. Their exhibition, which allowed people to experience Shimadzu’s history and Japanese culture, was a hit with many of the visitors.

Events commemorating Shimadzu’s 150th anniversary have been held around the world. We look forward to sharing more stories from different countries and regions in the coming months. Stay tuned for more updates.
