On March 31, 2025, Shimadzu Corporation celebrated its 150th anniversary. Our founding spirit has traveled from Kyoto, and it continues to inspire our colleagues around the world. To honor this milestone together, commemorative events have been held globally. This article shares stories from Germany, France, and Malaysia.
Shimadzu Europa GmbH: In Germany, a Boat Cruise Party for Family Participation was Held on the Rhine River
On June 12, Shimadzu Europa GmbH (SEG), based in Duisburg, Germany, held a cruise party on the Rhine River to celebrate Shimadzu’s 150th anniversary. It was attended by 215 employees and their family members. On the boat, a “History Walk” that traces Shimadzu Group history was conducted and an overview video of events during the past 150 years was shown. With live performances by bands of musicians walking through and on the deck of the boat and with appearances by a magician and a saxophone player in collaboration with a DJ booth, the participants became very energized.

Shimadzu France: Commemorative Party Held at a Paris Art Museum
Shimadzu France (SFP) has been selling and servicing analytical and measuring instruments in France since it was established in 2002. Over 50 employees work together at the office in Marne-la-Vallée, a suburb of Paris.
In March 2025, SFP exhibited the products at the Forum Labo Paris exhibition in Paris. Forum Labo, the largest research and analytical instrument exhibition in France, is held once every two years. This year, the event attracted 330 exhibitors from companies and other organizations and was attended by over 13,000 visitors. In the evening of the second day of the exhibition, about 70 customers and partners were invited to attend a party to celebrate the 150th anniversary since Shimadzu was founded. The party was held in a portion of the Asian art museum, where guests were entertained by a live harp performance. The two concept models of Shimadzu products enhanced with traditional arts and crafts technology from Kyoto that were also exhibited attracted significant attention.

Shimadzu Malaysia Sdn Bhd.: Special Exhibition Booth Designed with Balloon Motif as Expression of Shimadzu’s Founding Spirit
Shimadzu Malaysia Sdn Bhd. (SML) is a Shimadzu Group subsidiary established in 2014 for selling and servicing analytical and measuring instruments and medical systems within Malaysia. Located in Petaling Jaya, a city next to Kuala Lumpur, 80 employees work at the subsidiary.
In July 2025, SML exhibited the products at the LabAsia exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. LabAsia is a leading analytical instrument exhibition in Asia and is held once every two years. With exhibits from over 600 companies and other organizations and featuring 32 sessions/seminars, it was attended by about 5,800 visitors.
To commemorate Shimadzu’s 150th anniversary, SML exhibited a booth designed with a balloon motif based on an episode when Shimadzu founder Genzo Shimadzu Sr. launched a manned balloon. The booth also exhibited one type of the 150th anniversary concept models that were designed to incorporate traditional Kyoto arts and crafts technologies. On the day of the exhibition, cards depicting AI characters were distributed and then an event that involved searching the venue for the person who served as the model for those card characters was conducted. Another game involved visitors using a Shimadzu AP series analytical balance to weigh 150 beads within the specified time limit. These participation-based events were especially popular with visitors.
