OECM: An abbreviation for “Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures.” Areas outside of protected areas, such as national parks, that are effective for biodiversity conservation.
The Japan Habitat Evaluation and Certification Program was established by the Ecosystem Conservation Society-Japan in December 2008 to assess and certify measures aimed at conserving or restoring biodiversity.
CASBEE Kyoto was established independently by Kyoto City and is based on other Comprehensive Assessment System for Built Environment Efficiency (CASBEE) programs that have been widely established throughout Japan.
