World’s First Anti-Static Solution for Battery Research and Development
Release of the STABLO-AP-N2 desktop Corona Discharge Ionizer for Nitrogen Gas Environments

STABLO-AP-N2
Shimadzu Corporation has launched the world’s first desktop corona discharge ionizer capable of static elimination in a nitrogen gas environment, the STABLO-AP-N2, on January 7. In recent years, research and development of batteries related to green transformation and carbon neutrality has accelerated. New materials and their raw components are highly reactive and prone to moisture absorption, nitrification, and oxidation, making them difficult to handle in ambient air environments. As a result, precision glove boxes filled with argon gas (with oxygen and moisture concentrations of 1 ppm or less) are widely used in research and development. For materials with a low risk of nitrification, lower-cost nitrogen gas is commonly used.
A desktop ionizer dedicated to nitrogen gas use is a world-first. By enabling the use of nitrogen gas—previously incompatible with conventional ionizers—this product suppresses static electricity effects during weighing and ensures highly reliable measurement results. This new model supports three configurations: integrated into the Shimadzu AP W-AD or AP series of analytical balances, installed (on a dedicated stand) for standalone or handheld use. Shimadzu Corporation has been manufacturing and selling analytical balances since 1918. Through the continued development of high-performance and user-friendly products, Shimadzu will contribute to improved operational efficiency in research and development.
Features
1. World’s First desk-top Corona Discharge Ionizer for Eliminating Static Electricity in a Nitrogen Gas Environment
This corona discharge ionizer eliminates static charge in nitrogen gas environments. The ease with which gases ionize varies with gas type. Because the ion balance differs significantly between ambient air and the interior of precision glove boxes, adjustments to the discharge amount and timing of positive and negative ions are required. By incorporating electrode spacing optimized for nitrogen gas and dedicated discharge control software, Shimadzu has developed a corona discharge ionizer specifically designed for nitrogen gas use.
2. Can be Used in Three Configurations: Standalone or Balance-Integrated
The product can be used inside a glove box as a standalone unit on a dedicated stand, integrated into Shimadzu analytical balances or handheld. It is also available bundled as a set with the AP W-AD and AP series of analytical balances.
3. AP W-AD ex Series Retains the Convenient Functions of the Previous Models
Conventionally, radiation-type ionizers used in nitrogen gas environments require expensive equipment and consumables such as discharge needles and lamps, which must be replaced frequently. The STABLO-AP-N2 equipment costs 1/3 to 1/4 and is economical both in terms of running costs.
