Selected as a “Health and Productivity Management Brand” for the Third Consecutive Year Recognized as a “White 500” Company with Superior Health Management Practices for the Seventh Consecutive Year

On March 8, Shimadzu Corporation was selected by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Tokyo Stock Exchange as a “2023 Health and Productivity Management Brand,” which is a recognition of publicly listed companies with outstanding health and productivity management practices. Companies selected for this brand implement “health management” with a managerial perspective and in a strategic manner, and consider the health of employees and other personnel. This is the third consecutive year that Shimadzu has been selected. In addition, Shimadzu has been recognized as a “White 500” company with superior health management practices by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Nippon Kenko Kaigi for the seventh consecutive year. The “White 500” are publicly listed or other large companies recognized for their outstanding health management practices.

Shimadzu considers employee health, safety, and the freedom to work with vigor and enthusiasm as the basis for company management. Based on our management principle of “Realizing Our Wishes for the Well-being of Mankind and the Earth,” we aim to be a company that creates an environment in which employees and their peers manage and promote their health, and that grows together with our employees and their families by returning to them the healthcare related technologies, products, and services that we produce.

Shimadzu Health Management Initiatives

In 2017 we enacted a Health Declaration, and are promoting voluntary measures to boost health development. As part of this initiative, in cooperation with the Japanese Health Insurance Association and labor unions we are implementing a “Miru-Miru Genki” program for maintaining and improving health in five areas: exercise, diet, quitting smoking, mental health, and sleep. In 2021, we began a health check challenge aimed at all employees receiving their periodic checkups, from the perspective of a population approach, in which everyone is aware of their own health results and is aiming for self improvement. Scores are allotted to nine items from the health results including blood pressure and triglycerides level, making it possible to visualize health status. The average company-wide health score improved from 84.7 points in 2020, the year prior to starting the initiative, to 85.5 points in 2022.
