Rina Komokata of the Shimadzu Corporation tennis team "SHIMADZU Breakers" (Corporate Communications Department) won both singles and doubles titles at the 2026 AO (Australian Open) Deaf & Hard of Hearing (DHoH) Championships, held at Melbourne Park in Australia from January 30 to February 1. In the singles final on February 1, Komokata defeated second seed Katerina Blascikova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-0. Partnering with Taiwan’s Chia-Wen Lin in doubles, Komokata finished the four-team round-robin with a 2–1 record and secured the title on point differential, marking her third consecutive singles championship and her second consecutive doubles championship. Last November, Komokata also won a gold medal in doubles and a bronze medal in singles at the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics, an international multisport event for athletes who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Commenting on her performance, Komokata said, “I was able to maintain an attacking mindset from the start, which helped me find a good rhythm. Winning three consecutive titles is incredibly satisfying. On the doubles side, there were moments where I felt the challenges of partnering with an overseas player, but I’m very happy that we were able to win the title in the end. Going forward, I want to clearly identify areas for improvement and improve my game so I can compete in Australia again next year.”
