September 30, 2025 | News & Notices New Precision Refractometers of KPR-3010 Series as Kalnew brand are going to be launched in Taiwan by Shimadzu corporation.

New models comply with the JIS standard "JIS B 7071-2 Optics and Photonics - Method for measuring the refractive index of optical glass - Part 2: V-block method" as of October 21, 2024.
This product is the successor to the Kalnew Precision Refractometers KPR-3000, which combines the optical design and manufacturing technologies cultivated over many years to firmly establish itself as the standard in the field of refractive index measurement of optical materials since its launch in 2013.
New Product Features
- V-block method (JIS B 7071-2:2024 compliant) achieves high-speed, high-precision measurement.
The measurement accuracy is ±2×10-5. The measurement takes approximately 14 seconds per 1 wavelength. In addition, the measurement error by the measurer is suppressed, providing high-precision and stable measurement results.
- Wavelength-dependent and temperature-dependent information can be acquired.
Three models are available with the required light source for each application, ranging from five standard wavelengths to a maximum of fifteen wavelengths. With the optional V-block prism for temperature control, temperature-dependent information can also be acquired in the range of 10~70℃.
- Suitable for a wide range of samples, including small samples and highly volatile liquids
To be able to measure solids (Glass, resin, etc.) and liquids. In addition, with a refractive index measurement range of 1.20~2.05 (up to 2.28 with the option), 1 unit can measure a wide range of samples. In the case of solids, the time and effort required for sample preparation can be greatly reduced compared to the minimum deflection angle method because a highly accurate polishing surface is not required to finish the sample. In the case of liquids, the optional V-block prism for liquids can be used for measurement.
- Spacious sample chamber and simple design for ease of use
Placing the sample chamber in front of the main body makes it easy to install and remove samples.
The sample chamber has a 165 mm wide opening for easy loading and unloading. - Easy-to-use control software and slit image display for accurate understanding of sample condition
An auto-collimation image is displayed on the software, making it easier to adjust the V-block when replacing it. In addition, the slit image during measurement is displayed along with the light intensity graph, which is useful for detecting small differences or abnormalities in the sample that are not shown in the refractive index.
In addition, an "automatic calculation of the refractive index of the D-line (589.3 nm)" function has been added. The refractive index of the D-line is calculated from the measurement results of 3 standard wavelengths (d-line, C-line, and F-line) using the dispersion formula, and the results are displayed. By selecting the optimum combination of the measurement wavelength and the dispersion formula, results equivalent to the method of calculating the refractive index of the D-line from the refractive index at the wavelengths of D1 (589.6 nm) and D2 (589.0 nm), which are the emission lines of a sodium lamp, can be obtained.
