September 25, 2026 | News & Notices Establishment of a Fabrication Process for Varied Groove Depth Gratings
On September 25th, Shimadzu established a fabrication process for Varied Groove Depth Gratings (VGDG)* and started accepting special orders.
VGDG enables high diffraction efficiency over a broad wavelength range in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) and soft X-ray regions.
The groove depth of VGDG is continuously varied along the groove direction. By adjusting the beam position on the grating according to the wavelength to be extracted, high diffraction efficiency can be achieved over a broader wavelength range than with conventional gratings having a constant groove depth. This improves light utilization efficiency and contributes to a higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).
VGDG is also compatible with Varied Line Spacing (VLS) designs.
