Measurement of TOC in Sulfuric Acid Solution and Ammonium Sulfate Solution Using the TOC-VCSH

Download

Introduction

Sulfuric acid is an indispensable chemical product which is produced in large quantities to fulfill requirements in wide-ranging applications, including the manufacture of industrial goods, medicines, fertilizer, fibers, explosives, as well as in specialty applications such as electrolytic solutions for batteries, etc. Since high-purity is required for sulfuric acid used as a raw material in various products, measurement of organic impurities in sulfuric acid may be necessary. When a TOC analyzer is used to measure sulfuric acid, the sulfuric acid ion could influence the measurement value. However, if the Shimadzu TOC analyzer is used, measurement of a 1 % sulfuric acid solution is possible. This Application News introduces examples of TOC measurement in 1 % sulfuric acid solution and in 1 % ammonium sulfate solution using the Shimadzu TOC-VCSH total organic carbon analyzer.
