Streamlining Quality Control Operations with LabSolutions Detect—Reducing the Risk of Missing Impurities with PDA Detector
User Benefits
- LabSolutions Detect enhances the reliability and productivity of quality control operations by reducing the risk of human error and oversight associated with visual inspection. - The use of a photodiode array (PDA) detector enables comprehensive detection across multiple wavelengths, further reducing the risk of missing impurities.
Introduction
In the quality control of pharmaceuticals and foods with functional claims, verifying the content of active ingredients and detecting impurities are essential to ensure product efficacy and safety. These tasks are typically performed by qualitative and quantitative analysis using liquid chromatography (LC). However, the large number of chromatograms generated must be reviewed to identify peaks based on retention time, compare quantitative results with specification limits, and confirm the presence or absence of impurities. When these processes are performed manually, they are susceptible to human error and the risk of overlooking important findings. LabSolutions Detect automatically analyzes the differences between a reference chromatogram representing the impurity-free product and target chromatograms obtained during routine quality control, thereby preventing missed changes in active ingredient content and overlooked impurity contamination. Application News No. 01-01014-EN introduced a case study in which LabSolutions Detect was applied to the LC analysis of pramipexole hydrochloride, as described in the USP, using the LC-2070C (UV model) to improve the efficiency of quality control operations. In this article, a method for further reducing the risk of missing impurities by combining LabSolutions Detect with the LC-2070C 3D (PDA model) and utilizing multi-wavelength information is presented.
