LCMS-TQ RX Series Triple Quadrupole LC-MS/MS
- Sensitive and specific method for aldosterone in human serum - Low picomolar LLOQ - Assay can be easily extended by the addition of other steroid hormones
Primary aldosteronism, i.e. excessive production of aldosterone, is recognized as the most common cause of endocrine hypertension (Guo et al., 2018), and as such aldosterone is a research target in the cardiovascular and endocrine fields. Measurement of aldosterone concentration in serum or plasma is carried out in research fields involving the physiological function of aldosterone and steroid hormone metabolism, as well as evaluation and development of analytical technology. Peripheral aldosterone has historically been measured using immunoassay methods. However, due to its low circulating picomolar concentration, combined with relatively higher concentrations of other structurally similar steroid hormones, these measurements can be prone to bias due to cross reactivity issues. The inherent specificity of LCMS provides an opportunity to measure steroid hormones at low picomolar concentrations without the inherent bias of immunoassays. This application introduces a highly sensitive and specific measurement method using LC-MS/MS as an example of serum aldosterone analysis for research applications.
